New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge felt nervous as he jogged out to the loudest cheer of any Yankee during pregame introductions. The 23-year-old right-hander Severino lasted less than an inning, giving up four hits, three runs (all earned) and a walk on 29 pitches.

Yankees pitcher David Robertson delivered 3 1/3 scoreless innings on 52 pitches.

Aaron Judge plays better on a bigger stage.

It should be noted that the Yankees offense also pulled through with them, but the Wild Card win over the Twins is being heralded as one of Girardi's best moments as manager.

Santana allowed a go-ahead solo homer to Brett Gardner in the second and got just six outs on 64 pitches before Molitor went to the bullpen. "All I'll say is I won't let Judge beat me". The Twins were the underdogs, and they literally came out swinging, kicking off the postseason with a Brian Dozier leadoff dinger. Three batters would hit a home run in their first appearance in the Wild Card game.

The Minnesota Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and had two runners in scoring position when Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided to make a change.

Eddie Rosario then homered with a line drive to right field which allowed Jorge Polanco to get home and put the Twins 3-0 up. Another homer followed, and Yankees' starter Luis Severino was chased from the game. Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher and to the hospital with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Yankee bullpen was front and center in Tuesday's victory. He left with one out and the bases loaded in the third, but still got a rousing ovation after striking out four in two innings.

Cleveland's regular season was remarkable, and there is a good reason the Indians are installed as the favorite to win the pennant for a second straight year. That only fueled the Yankees more and by the end of the 46-minute first inning, it was all square at 3-3. After his American League wild-card start against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, he still barely has. They won 102 games, they have stars all over the field, and they nearly won the World Series previous year. NY defeated Minnesota in the AL Division Series in 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010, claiming 12 of 14 contests in that span.

While the New York Yankees may have gone 2-5 against the Indians this season, that does not mean anything. October is October. For those three-plus innings, Robertson had pitched early the way Mariano Rivera had once pitched late at this time of year.
